Free GovFresh Gov 2.0 WordPress Theme

January 3, 2010 9:36 pm

We’re developing a simple GovFresh Gov 2.0 WordPress Theme to make it easier for local governments and agencies to begin building their own Websites/blogs. The objective is to help government focus on:

  • simple Web design practices
  • easy site administration
  • 508 compliance
  • social media integration
  • cost savings
  • faster site deployment

The theme is a work in progress and very much in its early stages. We’ll update as we learn what features users need most. Please share your ideas and feedback in the comments.

Features:

  • site search
  • simple primary/secondary/tertiary navigation
  • home page template with rotating carousel
  • news page template for updates and press releases
  • sidebar for social media integration

Example:

City of Manor, TX (cityofmanor.org)

This is a great idea for the sake of consistency and really helps agencies from having to filter through tons of themes. Kudos!

    Rochelle,

Agree, consistency is important. Many times we see Websites turn into vanity art projects rather than focus on how well they work for the user. If more were consistent, might be easier for citizens to find what they were looking for.

Hope this inspires government to think more about this.

Do you have any guidence on how to set up the “connect” section and the section with people who have “Liked” on Facebook?

I assume these are WP widgets but I can’t seem to find them.

  • http://lukefretwell.com Luke Fretwell

    Hi Jake,

You should see the ‘Facebook’ widget box in the ‘Widgets’ section under ‘Appearance.’ If not, download the latest zip file and upload the functions.php and sidebar.php.

Email me directly if you have questions (luke @ govfresh.com).

Hey Luke, do you have different style sheets and such on that CityofManor website?  It looks much different (with drop down menus, etc.) than the govfresh theme.
